It’s been a long time coming

By Caryn | May 12, 2008

Welcome to the new art.blogging.la! Not much has changed on the site since we launched it over four years ago so this is quite an exciting development and wonderful to finally share with you readers. AbLA now has new blogging software, an updated look and affiliates (such as For Your Art and Culture Pundits), along with our continued focus on promoting and supporting the art in the city we know and love, dear Los Angeles.

The changes to abLA come in the midst of many changes. As some of you know either from the announcement on sixspace, through speaking with me, or through the grapevine, I am about to do something I would have never thought I would do…leave L.A. The reasons for this life and career change are many but the main impetus has been my desire to be involved in the art world in a different way, one that is away from being an art dealer. I will be beginning the MFA Curatorial Programme at Goldsmiths in London this September that will be the first step in me contributing to the art world as a curator and writer (two aspects to this life that I realized I enjoyed infinitely more than the blatant market and monetary emphasis inherently tied into owning an art gallery). And though I’m sad to leave the city I love so much, I am over-the-moon to begin this next phase of my life in a city I adore equally, London. Art.blogging.la will absolutely continue though sixspace will not. I will remain Editor of abLA permanently and will continue to write until my departure – I look forward to handing the managing reigns to someone very soon.

As I mentioned above, we’re teaming up with some pretty amazing people. For Your Art has taken on the monumental task of compiling the ever-growing gallery/museum listings in L.A. as well as creating comprehensive, and downloadable, maps for the city’s different art regions. Because of the incredible job they’re doing and because abLA was never really intended to be a listing, please refer to their link on this site for L.A. gallery/museum information. Look for more collaborations with them come to fruition hopefully very soon. Our other affiliate is Culture Pundits, put together by the Barry Hoggard from Bloggy and ArtCal, who is our go-to for advertising on the site (support your local art blog). And last, but certainly not least, look for the launch of Art Blogging London in the near future that will, just like abLA, chronicle my navigation of the London art world and embracing it as I have Los Angeles. Let the art blogging empire begin!

(Special props to Sean and Jason @ Bode Media who publish this site – you guys rock!)
